QuickBooks Database Server Manager allows you to share your company files with other computers in your network. In the event that you have installed a network to monitor your multi-user network, start QuickBooks Database Server Manager so users can log in to access the company files. If something is prevented from a multi-user connecting with your server, the QuickBooks error h202 will be encountered.
Note: If you require more than one user to have access to your file, you only need Database Server Manager; if not, then you don't need to have it.

How to install Database Server Manager
Download the QuickBooks Database Server Manager on your server computer, where your company files are hosted.
Important: In case you are hosting several versions of QuickBooks Desktop on the same network, install them in sequence starting from the earliest to the latest.
- Close all your programs on your server computer, including QuickBooks.
- Locate the install file Setup_QuickBooks.exe you downloaded and double-click it.
- Follow the on-screen instructions that appear to find your product or license numbers.
- Choose Custom or Network Options to install the type, and click Next. Do not select Express.
Note: If you want to keep the prior version to compare and troubleshoot, then the implicit choice is to install QuickBooks Desktop overtop of your prior version of QuickBooks Desktop. - Click Next to install the Database Server Manager. In this step it will not overwrite any company data if QuickBooks Desktop is installed on your server computer.
- If you plan to have Database Server Manager and QuickBooks Desktop on the server computer, select the suggested option: "I'll be using QuickBooks Desktop on this computer, AND I'll be storing our company file here so it can be shared over our network."
- If you plan to only have Database Server Manager on your server computer, select "I will NOT be using QuickBooks Desktop on this computer."
- These instructions will tell the rest of what to do on the screen. When you are done, click Install. Windows will sometimes make you confirm.
Note: QuickBooks installs a new Windows user for each release of Database Server Manager. For example, Database Server Manager 2023 appears in the list as QBDataServiceUser33.
Allow the QBDataServiceUserXX (where XX is the user number) to read and access the folders that contain files relevant to your business. When you grant system-level permissions, you can see these users.

If you don't wish to use the default, just skip this step and move on to Step 3.
