Thank you for joining us once again for this NBA 2K tutorial. We are going to talk about the dribble today, which is one of the most fundamental fundamentals. Because of the changes that were made to the stamina system this year, maintaining control of the ball while dribbling is more important than it has ever been before. In this guide, we will discuss the modifications that have been made to dribbling, the different combinations that can be used to get around an opponent, the on-the-fly adjustments that you should make, and the times at which you should use each move in order to be successful in NBA 2K23.
The objective of dribbling is to draw defenders out of position so that you can launch an attack from that space.
You should never perform moves for the sake of performing them
Because of this, it is important to first recognize when the defender is about to cut you off
This is one reason why concentrating on the free throw line as the destination you need to get to before the defender has helped me become a much more effective dribbler
It has also improved my ability to counter because I am aware that I will no longer be able to drive because the defender is about to cut me off
Now, let's talk about the different dribbling moves we have available to us
A successful crossover dribble involves making an abrupt change in direction in order to get around a defender as quickly as possible. You should only use this move when the defender is about to prevent you from taking your initial angle, and you should activate it before you get too close to the defender, because otherwise they will be able to take it away from you.
To raise the right stick, flick it up.
The Cross That Is Done Between The Legs
Because you are using your body as a shield, this provides better protection for the ball against defenders who are trying to cut you off or who are playing extremely aggressively when you are on the move. As a direct consequence of this, you are able to use this move even when the opposing team is very close to you.
To control the game, flick the right stick to the left or right (towards your hand that is not holding the ball).
In the Rearview Mirror
Whether you are standing still or moving around, this affords the greatest degree of safety for the ball against the opposition's defensive players. When you try to use this move, it will lunge you forward with the ball and allow you to cover a lot of ground in the opposite direction, which will open up opportunities for you to take shots. Because of this, it is important for your players' momentum to already be heading in the direction of the basket before they attempt it.
To control the game, flick the right stick down and left or down and right (towards the hand that is not holding the ball).
Explosive Dribble in the Back of the Hands
You have the ability to activate this move from a stationary position, which allows you to completely surprise your opponents who are defending against you.
Instructions: To control the game, flick the right stick down/left or down/right (towards the hand that is not holding the ball), and then flick the left stick up/left or up/right (towards the hand that is not holding the ball).
Step Back
The most common time to use this phrase is as soon as you have crossed the 3-point line. An opportunity to go for three points presents itself as your rival is left behind, mistakingnly believing that you are still in the driver's seat. When driving, you should have this item in your arsenal so that you can quickly create space. The step back is another great way to create space for yourself against defenders who are crowding you. This is because a lot of the time, your opponent's excellent defense can break down if you perform a step back because they are unable to adjust to the new found space you have. Stepping back is a great way to create space for yourself against defenders who are crowding you.
Drag the right stick down with your thumb.
Your defender will likely lose track of the ball if you hesitate, allowing you to slow down your movement and make a better-informed decision about what to do next. Hesitation is a great move to use if you want to get your opponent to make a mistake.
Controls: Move your hand towards the ball by flicking the right stick.
In and Out is a dibble move that is a type of misdirection that fools the defender into thinking that you are about to cross over when in reality you continue to go in the same direction.
In 2K, a perfect in and out occurs when the defender is frozen and you are able to breeze right by them, or when the defender moves completely out of the way because they believe you are going to go the other way. When you attempt this, you need to give yourself a sufficient amount of space from the defender so that you don't accidentally run into them.
To control the game, flick the right stick up/right or up/left in the direction of your ball hand.
Transition to the Evasion of Hesitation
Through the use of a Cross to Hesitation Escape, you can achieve separation from the defender by moving laterally, at which point you will hopefully be free to attack.
While holding RT or R2 on your controller, move the right stick up/left or up/right (to the hand that is not controlling the ball).
Hesitation Escape
The Hesitation Escape involves keeping the ball on the same side throughout the entirety of the move while attempting to create space for yourself laterally against the defender in order to either shoot or drive the ball.
Instructions: While holding RT or R2 on your controller, move the right stick left and right (to control your ball hand).
Get Out of Here Between Your Legs!
The crossover to hesitation escape is very similar to this move, but this one offers superior ball protection laterally.
While holding RT or R2 on the controller, move the right stick directly left or right (to the hand that is not controlling the ball).
Steph Curry's Behind the Back Dribble Escape is, without a shadow of a doubt, the most famous Behind the Back Escape in the game.
While pressing RT or R2 on your controller, flick the right stick down to the left or down to the right (to the hand that is not controlling the ball).
Step Back Escape
The goal of this dibble move is to get you out of trouble with the defender so that you can get a shot off or drive the ball forward.
While pressing RT or R2 on your controller, quickly flick down on the right stick.
The spin move is a way to create space for yourself when a defender is going all out to stop your initial path to the basket. This move forces you into the lane because the defender is unable to stop your forward momentum and therefore you are able to create space for yourself. You should also avoid attempting to spin the ball when the lane is already open for you to pass through because doing so will cause the ball to rebound directly off of a defender.
Turn the right stick so that it is in your non-ball hand when you have finished using it with the ball.
