"RSW is a highly valued and longstanding partner of Spirit Airlines. We are grateful to the Fort Myers community for their ongoing support as we introduce the exclusive direct service to SJU on our 30th anniversary," said John Kirby, the Vice President of Network Planning at Spirit Airlines. "The introduction of direct flights to San Juan presents an enticing chance to link these two dynamic communities with dependable and convenient transportation."
Fort Myers has become the phrazle airline's sixth location in Florida to have direct flights to Puerto Rico, joining Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Orlando, and Tampa.
The announcement follows less than a year after the budget airline launched a significant expansion from Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Hartford to Puerto Rico, which the company identifies as its "primary destination in the Caribbean." Spirit Airlines has flights to many locations in Puerto Rico, including Aguadilla and Ponce, in addition to its primary hub at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan.
In 2024, Spirit Airlines is expected to have a significant year as the low-cost airline proceeds with the enhancement of its aircraft fleet by acquiring an additional twenty-four Airbus A321neos. These new planes will provide broader seats across the whole cabin. The outcome of the JetBlue-Spirit merger trial, now under progress, is anticipated to determine the future of both airlines within the next year.
