Though Zomato acts as a bridge between consumers and restaurants, this incident has placed their food safety protocols under scrutiny. The situation unfolded when a customer, Yaman Dev Sharma, had an unpleasant experience with his food order. He ordered a burger and fries from Burger King through the Zomato app, only to discover mold on the bun after finishing his fries.

Yaman took to social media to express his frustration, posting a photo of the moldy burger and tagging both Zomato and Burger King India. In a sarcastic tone, he wrote:

“This is very shocking. We are sorry you had to go through this. We will investigate it. In the meantime, a member of our team will definitely call you. For this, please DM us your registered contact number,” Zomato replied.

The post quickly went viral, sparking widespread shock and disappointment among users. Food safety and hygiene are crucial in the food delivery industry, and this incident raised serious concerns about the quality control processes followed by both delivery platforms and restaurants.

In response to the public outcry, Zomato promptly acknowledged the complaint, stating that they were investigating the issue. Burger King also faced significant backlash, with many calling for stricter quality control measures to prevent future incidents. Zomato responded, saying:

“Hi Yaman, we never intend to provide such an experience. Can you please DM us your Contact Number, Store Location, Order ID and Email ID so that we can get in touch with you. Rest assured we will investigate this thoroughly,” Burger King replied.
