Techniques to remove QuickBooks H505 error

You cannot set up a stable multi-user network in QuickBooks after this error develops and stops you from hosting the data file. You’ll have to take the following measures to ensure the error doesn’t appear again-

Solution 1- Register the Network Descriptor file using DBSM after it is recreated

The Network Descriptor file contains the path to the data source, and DBSM uses this file during the multi-user network setup. If this file gets damaged and fails to run, the DBSM might crash or malfunction, leading to multi-user mode issues on your QuickBooks. You need to ensure the file is fixed and registered on the network to prevent the issues from developing again in the software. Use these steps-

1. Launch the file explorer and visit the QB folder location on your computer.

2. Open the folder and right-click the Network Descriptor (.nd) file inside.

3. Select the Rename option and type ‘.old’ as an extension to the file name without interfering with the original name.

4. Save the (.nd.old) file and launch DBSM on your computer.

5. Click the Scan Folders tab and hit Browse to enter the QB folder’s location.

6. Select the Start Scan option and wait until the scan completes.

7. Reboot your computer and try opening the company file on your server in multi-user mode.

If the error develops after recreating the network descriptor file, move to the next solution.

Solution 2- Stop the DBSM processes running in the background

You can also run into this error code if the DBSM stops working or malfunctions due to an interruption in its background processes. This can happen due to technical snags or Windows Firewall restrictions. You can tackle the issue by restarting the DBSM processes as discussed in these steps-

1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete together on the keyboard and click the Task Manager option in the menu.

2. Navigate to the Processes tab and single-click on the QBDBMGrN.exe /QBDBMgr.exe.

3. Click the End Task option and reopen your QB after stopping the processes.
